Mrs. Mînzatu
Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness
Call for action in support of the European Family Contract
Dear Vice-President Mînzatu,
We, the undersigned Members of the European Parliament express our deep concern about the
ongoing demographic challenges in the European Union and call for action in support of the
European Family Contract (EFC), a forward-thinking political initiative developed in
collaboration with international experts and designed to address Europe’s demographic
challenges.
Strengthening families must be placed at the centre of Europe’s demographic strategy and is
best expressed through actions that ensure fairness between generations.
The European Family Contract is a concrete response to strengthen families as the fundamental
group of society. By promoting family life, enhancing social inclusion, and supporting the
sustainable development of human capital, it will significantly reinforce Europe’s social,
demographic, and economic resilience, ensuring its long-term stability.
Importantly, simplifying and streamlining family-related benefits across Member States will
reduce administrative burdens for families and public administrations alike, contributing to
more efficient governance and fostering citizens’ trust in EU social policies.
In line with the European Pillar of Social Rights, in line with the European Anti-Poverty
Strategy, and in line with the forthcoming new EU demographic strategy, we respectfully urge
you to integrate the European Family Contract into EU strategies and examine specific
measures and concrete recommendations to the European Member States to offer practical and
effective support for all generations across Europe.
We urgently ask you to send a strong message to European families, society, and citizens, and
to pave the way for strong families in a strong and competitive Europe.
As we move forward, we firmly believe that only with strong families can a strong Europe
emerge: A Europe capable of asserting itself and thriving in an increasingly globalized world.
Yours sincerely,
